You try to take care of your body but often find yourself right back where you started. The headaches, the back pain, or maybe you just can’t get your body to fully relax.
You try a massage and report “My muscles are just so tense.”
The truth is you need a certain amount of tension in those muscles otherwise you’d move around like a wet noodle. Tone is the amount of tension in a relaxed muscle. When your body is relaxed and the muscles have a healthy amount of resting tension you’ll experience the benefits:

But due to stress, tension becomes a bad thing for most of us.
Increased muscle tension is essentially a reaction to stress. With stress, the muscles tense up all at once, and then release their tension when the stress passes. A 2019 study revealed that about 77% of folks regularly experience physical symptoms caused by stress. Being in a state of regular stress makes it hard to go back to the place where tension becomes a good thing again.
