The Unarguable Benefits Of Exercising In The Morning

If you’re more apt to hit snooze when you wake up, here are 5 benefits of exercising in the morning that might make you reconsider.

  • Better focus and cognition - if you have trouble focusing during the day, morning exercise could help. Exercise helps the brain because movement helps your brain think and problem solve. Exercise sets your brain up to be on fire for the day.
  • Increased energy and alertness - The central nervous system is directly impacted by exercise. Blood flow is improved during exercise, and oxygen and nutrients are dispersed to muscle tissues, thus increasing energy.
  • Better mood and sleeping habits - your body produces serotonin, endorphins, and dopamine when you exercise. Serotonin makes your brain feel happy, and dopamine plays a big role in the quality of sleep you get.
  • Boosted metabolism and healthier choices - working out in the morning can help inspire healthier choices when it comes to foods consumed, and the effects of increased metabolism are often carried along throughout the day.
  • More energy overall - nutrients and oxygen get released during exercise and travel to the lungs and your heart. This helps with the entire cardiovascular system, stamina and endurance.

How To Become A Morning Exerciser

Perhaps some of those reasons listed above have made you consider becoming someone who exercises in the morning. And if that’s the case, that’s wonderful.

But if you’re not quite ready to jump in feet first, we have the perfect way to ease yourself into a routine. Right here on Fitstreams, check out Rise and Shine! It’s Pilates Time with Christopher.

There are 4 classes that, just like coffee, have varying levels of intensity.

Level 1: Instant Coffee - Wake up with this class when you want a convenient mat class with simple setups, and a little less intensity than the “Cup of Joe” and “Triple Shot” classes. Unlike a blaring alarm clock, this class will gently transition your body and mind from sleep to wake.

Note: Are you a beginner? No problem. This wake up will be an introduction- it won’t overwhelm you and it will prepare you for future classes.

Level 2: Cup of Joe - If you’re looking to improve your flexibility and range of motion, Cup of Joe will prepare your mind and body to enjoy a new day. The transitions are slower paced than in the Level 3 classes, but you will find it a bit more challenging than Instant Coffee. You’ll be sure to recognize notes of the classical Pilates exercises if you’re familiar with Pilates.

Level 3 has 2 classes: Caffe Latte and Triple Shot. Both classes are an excellent opportunity to jump right in and feel the warmth of the exercises right away! You’ll move through the classical Pilates repertoire with smooth and steady transitions to open up the joints, get your blood moving, and gently work out any tension leftover from awkward sleeping positions. You’ll feel all warmed up like a nice cup of coffee by the time you’re done.
