Comprehensive Pilates Reformer Workouts Without A Reformer

When One Pilates Reformer Workout A Week Isn’t Enough

Abby loves her Pilates Reformer workouts. It’s her favorite day of the week. She wakes up early, eats a good breakfast, and heads to the studio. When she gets there, Abby is instantly transported to her happy place. And not just mentally. It’s like her body KNOWS it’s about to have fun and get some much deserved attention. She savors every single second of the 50-minute class, and when it’s over, she’s bummed knowing it’ll be days or a week before the next. .

Abby secretly had a few wishes. She wished:

  • She had the time and money to take more than one class a week
  • She could do Pilates Reformer exercises every day
  • She had her own Reformer; what a dream that would be!

Time and Money Can Limit Pilates Reformer Workouts

After class ends Abby heads to the coffee shop with a friend. They talk about how much they enjoy this day every week, and commiserate that they are limited to just one Reformer class. They joke about how someone should come up with a way to do Pilates Reformer workouts on the mat at home so they could get their fix whenever they want!

Abby has tried to find substitutes for the Reformer before; tried to find a way she could reap the benefits of the Reformer without the extra expense. What could she do to implement the movements she learned on the Reformer, but at home?

She’s tried doing some Pilates at home- a few random videos on YouTube, but they were never anything like actual Pilates Reformer workouts. The videos were monotonous and hard to follow. None of them ever gave her the feel that she was getting that familiar, full-body, workout. She was about to put her phone down when she saw something on Fitstreams that caught her eye. Reformer On The Mat with Emily. Wait. Actually?

How to Get Pilates Reformer Workouts on a Mat

She clicked on the thumbnail and it said, “No Reformer at home? No problem. This course creatively takes on the classical Beginner-Intermediate Reformer Exercises using nothing but a mat.” Abby and her friend looked at each other with a, “yeah, right” expression. The whole thing sounded too good to be true, but…this is exactly what they’d been looking for.

Pilates Reformer workouts on the mat…how would that even work? Mat classes can feel pretty different than Reformer classes.

There is so much assistance and resistance on the Reformer, but in Emily’s class, you wouldn’t believe how brilliantly she helps you use the floor and gravity to get the same assistance and resistance. She also created three levels to get you used to the substitution.

Abby noticed that Fitstreams had a 14-day, free trial. They both decided that they had nothing to lose- it cost them nothing to see if this class was truly an at home Pilates Reformer workout on the mat experience. It turns out, it was awesome and they’d found a (much cheaper) way to get those extra Reformer class workouts.

  • Level 1 is a slower-modified pace so you can learn to control movement, and explores minimal inversion exercises
  • Level 2 moves at a brisker pace and focuses on the precision and flow of the exercises. Also, new layers are exercised in
  • Level 3 moves at a rather fast pace and the final, most advanced Reformer exercises are introduced
